Day 2 Hanoi City tour – HaLong city (B, L)
Hanoi, capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is different things to different people. Most foreigners on a short visit find Hanoi to be relatively slow paced, pleasant and even charming. Physically, it’s a more attractive city than HCMC – there is less traffic, noise and pollution – with more trees and open spaces. Hanoi’s centre is an architectural museum piece and its blocks of ochre buildings retain the air of a provincial town in 1930s France. Some have called it the Paris of the Orient, but it’s more like catching fleeting impressions of Paris with the smell of warm baguettes permeating street corners where the bread sellers congregate, the occasional view of the Opera House, and often being greeted with a ‘bonjour’ rather than ‘good morning’ AM: we start from our Hotel. Visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and his former residence; go on with a short walk to One Pillar pagodas. Visit Temple of Literature – The First University in Vietnam. Head back to the Old Quarter of Hanoi to visit the busy 36 streets on risk Shaw for 1 hour. Have Lunch in a restaurant in Old town. Day 3 Halong bay– Hanoi (B, L)
Magnificent Halong Bay, with its 2000-plus islands rising from the clear, emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin and covering an area of 1500 sq km, is one of the natural marvels of Vietnam. In 1994 Halong Bay was designated as Vietnam’s second UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors have compared the area’s magical landscape of limestone islets to Guilin in China and Krabi in southern Thailand. These tiny islands are dotted with innumerable beaches and grottoes created by wind and waves. Halong means ‘Where the dragon descends into the sea’. Legend has it that the islands of Halong Bay were created by a great dragon that lived in the mountains. As it ran towards the coast, its flailing tail gouged out valleys and crevasses; as it plunged into the sea, the areas dug up by the tail became filled with water. Leaving only bits of high land visible After Breakfast we will have 4hr cruise. The Boat cruise will give you a chance to see Incense burner rock, Ba Hang Fishing village…and visit Cave of Surprise (Sung Sot cave).
